St. Charles is known as “The Pride of the Fox,” a reference to the Fox River which flows through it. This small city (not far from the big city!) of about 33,000 residents has it all. In fact, Family Circle ranked St. Charles #1 in its 2011 Annual Survey of Best Towns and Cities for Families. They’ve got great schools and a wonderful park district that oversees many parks, including Pottawatomie Park and Mount St. Mary’s Park, both near downtown. The St. Charles Public Library is ranked one of the finest in the country. Dine at one of the many restaurants in downtown St. Charles before attending a concert or stop by for a nightcap afterward. The History Museum is a couple blocks east in a completely restored Texaco service station, and is filled with artifacts and photos. The annual Scarecrow Festival in October and the Pride of the Fox RiverFest in June are two of the areas better known outdoor events. The Fourth of July fireworks show is spectacular, and they are host to several great parades during the year. Known for residents who take great interest in their community and volunteer to serve in the many organizations, boards and committees definitely makes St. Charles a great place to call home.
