Oak Park Home Remodeling

Oak Park, an affluent village that sits  adjacent to Chicago’s west side has easy access to downtown Chicago via Interstate 290 and public transportation including the  CTA Blue and Green lines, buses, and Metra commuter rail. Pace buses also serve the Village for travel within its borders.

Oak Park was first settled in the 1830s, with the most rapid growth occurring in the late 19th and early 20th Century. Development was fueled by railroads and streetcars connecting the village to jobs in Chicago. In 1902 the village incorporated.

The village population peaked at 66,015 in the 1940’s. Smaller families led to falling population in the same number of homes and apartments.

Many people of national fame have been born here, or lived here while building their own families and careers, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Ernest Hemingway, Ray Kroc and Dan Castellaneta.

Famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his wife settled in Oak Park in 1889. Before Wright left Oak Park, in 1911, to settle in Wisconsin, he had built many homes and the Unity Temple, his own church. Due to Wright’s legacy A distinct focus on historic preservation of important architectural styles began in the 1970’s and continues today, with many buildings marked as historically significant.

Each year Oak Park attracts architecture buffs to view not only the many Frank Lloyd Wright designed homes, but those designed by George W. Maher, John Van Bergen and E.E. Roberts found in the village. The largest Wright-designed residential properties in the world is in Oak Park. Other very noteworthy attractions include the Ernest Hemingway Museum, the three Oak Park homes of writer and Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs, Wright’s Unity Temple, Pleasant Home and the Oak Park-River Forest Historical Society.

Oak Park and River Forest High School is a comprehensive college preparatory school, with a long list of alumni who have made notable contributions in many fields. Among these are Nobel Prize-winning author Ernest Hemingway, football Hall-of-Famer George Trafton, McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, city planner Walter Burley Griffin, comedian Kathy Griffin, basketball player Iman Shumpert and the voice of iconic cartoon character Homer Simpson, Dan Castellaneta.

There are 2,400 historic sites in Oak Park, the majority of which are homes. The Village of Oak Park displays the list online to encourage everyone to spend time in their marvelous village, and possibly decide to become a part of the history.
